The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry will be launching its Business Guyana Magazine on June 11, 2010 during a grand dinner at the Pegasus Hotel. In February, 2009, the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s Trade and Investment Committee commenced planning this new initiative- the Business Guyana 2010 Magazine.
After careful consideration by the Committee and the observation that there is a need for a general magazine for Guyana that would provide information not only on individuals and businesses; but also investment opportunities, tax rates, the various sectors and emerging sectors, general information on Guyana itself, and basically a one-stop information magazine for potential investors and business persons, it was decided that the Business Guyana 2010 Magazine was necessary.
The Chamber is proud to pioneer the publishing of the first edition of Business Guyana with hopes that prospective investors will get a greater understanding of our economy and the opportunities available and be guided in establishing a firm presence in Guyana.
In addition to the launch, the dinner will focus on disseminating information to the business community on the National Competitiveness strategy.
At this event, the business community will benefit from an informative presentation by guest speaker, Director of the National Competitiveness Strategy Unit, Dr. Cecil Rajana.
The gathering will be updated on the progress of the Competitiveness Strategy, its benefits to the business sector and be afforded the opportunity to have their questions answered.
Dr. Rajana, who holds a PhD in economics, attended Moscow Friendship University, University of London (the London School of Economics), Harvard University (The Kennedy School of Government) and Queens University (Kingston, Ontario, Canada).
This activity is one of several being undertaken this year as GCCI strives to fulfill its mandate to its members and the business community at large.
The National Competitiveness Strategy was launched in 2006. Soon after, Government entered into a US $27M loan agreement with the Inter-American Development Bank – the Support for Competitiveness Programme.
Through the $9M investment component of this loan, significant support is being given to a number of institutions whose operations are central to competitiveness of Guyana’s economy.
At the dinner, the business community will be further updated several initiatives under the National Competitiveness Strategy.
